Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain by Annie ProulxPart of a collection of short stories, Close Range: Wyoming Stories, and recently made into a major motion picture, Brokeback Mountain is the story of forbidden love. I must admit that I saw the movie first and then was curious enough to find out what the written word was all about. I had a sneaking suspicion that it would be better than the silver screen as is usually the case. Cold Mountain is one example. However, I find the story to be on level footing with the film. I’m not a major fan of short stories but partly I was on a mission to try to further understand the outcome of one of the characters. There has been some discussion about Jack’s “accident” with equal support to explain the outcome in the film. The short story clears this up a bit and is well worth seeking out to read. I highly recommend the movie too and would characterize it as epic, with sweeping vistas. Really, what could be better than gay cowboys? -Flourish

Gay cowboys - is that what all the fuss is about. With so many people saying they didn't see the movie and didn't plan on seeing the movie seemed every one was being close mouthed about the topic. Glad you did a review on the book because I would have gone looking for 'Brokeback Mountain' instead of short stories.
I haven't seen the movie yet but funny thing you should review this just now as I was planning on going to the bookstore to get this today. Glad to know it's good.
Annie Prouloux is one of my favorite authors. I like her novels better than short stories, you should ck them out. Google her and see all her wonderful books! Shipping News (also made into a movie, but badly I hear) was the best!
I think I would rather read the book than see the movie...I have found that books are far more interesting than the movies and entail more detail and story line.
If I have seen a movie first the book is always much better and if I have read the book first the movie is terrible...so I say go for the good reads and skip the movies.
